Women's Track and Field Takes Seventh at Atlantic Sun Outdoor Championships

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A gold medal finish in the 3000m steeplechase by senior Aubrey Alexander (Strongsville, Ohio) helped the Belmont women's track and field team take seventh at the 2010 Atlantic Sun Outdoor Championships this weekend.
Alexander's pace-setting finish, more than seven and a half minutes faster than the second-place finisher, marked the first first-place finish for a Bruin since 2008.
Other Bruins notching top-five finishes at the meet were senior Khalia Turner (Nashville, Tenn.), who took third in the 400m with a time of 56.44, senior Brittany Thune (Sioux Falls, S.D.), who finished fourth in the 10,000m with a time of 38:11.76, senior Elizabeth Codrington (Gretna, La.), who was fourth the the triple jump (11.63m), and sophomore Ester Mellado (South Barrington, Ill.) who finished fourth (36.88m) in the javelin.
In the 5000m, there were four top-20 finishes. Sophomore Nicole Muldowney (Hoover, Ala.) led the Bruins with a sixth-place finish (17:54.84), followed by freshman Courtney Bishop (Nashville, Tenn.) in eighth (18:07.56), sophomore Katelyn Eberhardt (Mishawaka, Ind.) in 17th (19:20.04) and junior Erin Mankin (Nashville, Tenn.) in 18th (19:28.49).
Senior Jessica Pesut (Chesterton, Ind.) finished eighth in the long jump (5.15m) and 13th in the javelin (19.47m).
