Jeff Wismer Named Volleyball Assistant Coach

NASHVILLE, TENN. - - Belmont Volleyball head coach Deane Webb announced Friday the hire of Jeff Wismer as the program's top assistant coach.

Wismer brings a wealth of experience and teaching ability to the Bruin program, after spending the past decade and a half immersed in the game.“ Jeff has great energy, a passion for teaching the game, and he fully understands what our program and Belmont University are all about,” Webb said.

Wismer spent the past season as the top assistant coach and club coordinator at Villanova University. While in the City of Brotherly Love, Wismer ran team offense and helped develop first-year setter Courtney Oertli into one of the Big East Conference's leaders is assists. The Wildcats notched 2009 victories over Virginia Tech, Virginia and Connecticut among others.

Wismer helped spearhead the 2010 Villanova recruiting class heralded by Prepvolleyball.com. He also served as 2010 Associate Club Director for the Philadelphia Volleyball Academy, which had three teams qualify for Junior Nationals.

Prior to his stint at Villanova, Wismer served as director of recruiting and top assistant coach at two traditional volleyball powers - Taylor University in Upland, Ind. and Eastern University in St. Davids, Pa.

One of the most decorated programs in the history of NAIA volleyball, Taylor went 32-8 in 2008 and finished No. 18 in the NAIA Top 25 poll. Moreover, Wismer trained NAIA All-American setter Betsy Brown.

Eastern University, which has five NCAA Division III Sweet 16 appearances the past seven years, went 25-1 in conference play during Wismer's tenure.

Wismer's coaching career began at Gwynedd-Mercy College.

“Coach Webb and Coach Brannon have established a culture of competitiveness within the classroom, on the court and within each athlete to strive for their personal best,” Wismer said when asked of his impressions of Belmont. “The confidence, conviction and goal-oriented mindset of the volleyball program are unrivaled to any I have encountered.”

All told, Wismer has trained 1 NCAA All-American, 1 NAIA All-American, seven All-Region players and over 100 all-conference honorees.

He also has extensive club volleyball experience, including a stint as the head coach of the renowned Asics Munciana 17-1 Volleyball Club.

“Jeff will immediately hit the recruiting trail, joining me at AAUs in Orlando as we continue finding the right student-athletes to be a part of our program,” Webb added.
