Volleyball's Kayla Albritton Named Atlantic Sun Player of the Week
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Kayla Albritton (Gainesville, Fla.), senior outside hitter for the Belmont volleyball team, has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference volleyball Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. Albritton had 29 kills, two service aces, 11 digs, and a block in two conference wins over the weekend. The pair of wins helped the Bruins climb into fourth place in the conference standings at 5-2.
Albritton is enjoying a break-out senior campaign, moving up the Atlantic Sun and Belmont career records. She currently ranks second in the conference in service aces per set (0.46), fourth in kills (3.60/set) and fifth in hitting percentage (.296). Last week Albritton ranked 18th nationally in service aces per set (0.47), and her 148 career aces are the Atlantic Sun record and rank her fourth on Belmont's career list. So far this season Albritton has recorded 335 kills (3.60/set), 13 assists, 43 service aces (0.46/set), 161 digs (1.73/set), 64 blocks and a .296 hitting percentage.
In addition to setting the conference career aces record, Albritton has set numerous individual career highs this season. She recorded a career high 21 kills against Duquesne and a career high 15 digs against Campbell. The 20+ kill match against Duquesne was her second of that week, a feat that earned Albritton All-Tournament honors at the Active Ankle Challenge hosted by Purdue. The All-Tournament honor was her second of the season. She has earned such honors three times this season, including the Belmont Invitational, the Active Ankle Challenge, and the Nevada Invitational.
A three-time Academic All-Conference selection, Albritton will graduate in May 2011 with a degree in Nursing.
