Volleyball's Johnson Named All-Southeast Region by COBRA Magazine
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - The postseason awards continued for senior Maggie Johnson. The Belmont senior was named to the COBRA Magazine All-Southeast Region team. The senior from Naperville, Ill., was named the Atlantic Sun Co-Player of the Year after helping the Bruins earn a share of the regular season title and pick up 21 wins on the season.
COBRA Magazine celebrates the success of volleyball players of African as well as Samoan and Tongan descent in hopes of encouraging young girls of those ethnic groups across the country to pursue the sport. Johnson joined several other student-athletes from Tennessee schools on the All-Region team.
Earlier this fall, Johnson picked up three Conference Player of the Week honors en route to being named to the Atlantic Sun All-Conference First Team for the second time in her career. She was also named the Scholar Athlete of the Year and a member of the Academic All-Conference team. Johnson finished her career at the top of the school records for attacks, second in career kills, and setting new top-five single season marks in both categories. She also moved into second all-time in Atlantic Sun history in kills. Johnson earned all-conference honors each of her four seasons for the Bruins.
