NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont will take its first road trip of the season as the team travels to San Antonio, Texas to compete in the UTSA Invitational. The Bruins kick off the action on Thursday with a 6:30 p.m. match against host, UTSA.
This will be the first time Belmont faces UTSA or UTEP on the court.
UTSA (2-2) is took a pair of wins over UAB and Middle Tennessee in the Blue Raider Bash over the weekend and suffered losses to Rice and Furman. The Roadrunners, who recently joined the Western Athletic Conference, finished the 2011 season second in the Southland with a 22-11 (14-2) record.
The Miners from UTEP (0-3) enter the invitational looking for their first win of the 2012 season. They dropped three matches to Fresno State, Idaho State and Arizona State, in the El Paso Sports Commission Invitational The Miners finished last season at 19-14 (9-11), finishing in ninth place in Conference USA.
Jamie Lundstrom (La Grange, Ill.) was named the adidas OVC Defensive Player of the Week for her performance over the weekend. The junior libero leads the league with 49 digs (5.44 digs/set). She recorded a season-high 22 digs against Alabama A&M on Friday.
After finishing opening weekend with a 1-2 record, the Bruins continue to face a challenging non-conference schedule. Following the UTSA Invitational, Belmont will compete in the Ohio Invitational in Athens, Ohio and then travel to Memphis, Tenn., for the Memphis Invitational. Belmont will be tested in their first OVC match with Morehead State on the road at the end of September. The Eagles, who won the OVC regular season and championship title last year, were the preseason favorite.
