Volleyball Gets Set for Tennessee Tech, Jacksonville State
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont volleyball (12-12, 5-3) continues its home stand this weekend as the team hosts Tennessee Tech and Jacksonville State.
The Bruins tied their season long win streak on Saturday with a three-set sweep of UT Martin.
Junior Scarlet Gable (Munford, Tenn.) is the team leader in kills with 251, averaging 2.76 per set. Senior Allison McCoy (Huntington Beach, Calif.) leads the conference with a .359 hitting percentage and is the team leader with 65 blocks.
Senior setter Hannah Miranda (Covington, La.) was tabbed the OVC Setter of the Week for the second straight week after dishing out 91 assists to help the Bruins hit .277 last week. She is second in the league averaging 10.26 assists per set.
Jen Myer (New Braunfels, Tex.) also earned OVC weekly honors as she was named the OVC Defensive Player of the Week. The senior registered 47 digs to go with three blocks last week. She posted a career-best 40 digs against Southeast Missouri last Friday. The 40 digs tied the Curb Event Center single match record, which was set by Jamie Lundstrom (La Grange, Ill.) in 2011.
Tennessee Tech (5-14, 1-8) is on a five-game skid following a midweek loss at Tennessee State. Natalie Penrod leads the Golden Eagles averaging 2.65 kills per set, while Ellen Conti averages 2.44 per set. Madison Keyes is the team leader in blocks with 53.
Belmont will host Jacksonville State (11-12, 4-4) on Saturday after the Gamecocks face Tennessee State Friday night. Jacksonville State is led by Emily Rutherford who is averaging 3.27 kills per set. Nicole Merget is third in the OVC averaging 1.01 blocks per set.
The Bruins swept both teams on the road earlier in the season.
