NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - To honor Belmont University Athletics' vast achievements over its 20 years as an NCAA Division I member institution, BelmontBruins.com continues its list of the Top 20 moments and accomplishments over the last two decades.

Today, we unveil moment No. 2 - Graduation Day for Belmont student-athletes.

Since 1996, 1,084 student-athletes, cheerleaders, student managers and support staff have graduated from Belmont University, the overwhelming majority with honors.

Academics is one of the cornerstones of Belmont University Athletics. From conference to national recognition, Belmont University student-athletes have distinguished themselves for high academic achievement – by any measure standing among the elite programs in the nation.

Belmont University has earned the Conference Academic Trophy 12 out of 14 years – which includes the Bruins' first three seasons in the Ohio Valley Conference (NOTE: The 2016 conference academic award will be handed out in July).

This unmatched standard of excellence yields Belmont local and national acclaim from respected publications like U.S. News & World Report and The Chronicle of Higher Education, and the NCAA Executive Committee . The Academic Trophy is given to the university whose student-athletes achieve a 3.25 grade-point average or higher in the classroom during their semester of competition.

At the NCAA level, Belmont University annually ranks among the nation’s-best in Graduation Rate (GSR) and Academic Progress Rate (APR) – which measures eligibility and retention of student-athletes.

In fact, Belmont stands as one of only 46 universities to have received Public Recognition Awards each of the 11 years of the APR program, with the Bruins taking home a staggering 55 awards in all.

Belmont has also earned 24 CoSIDA Academic All-America selections in the Division I era.

Remarkably, Spring 2016 marked the 39th straight semester that the departmental GPA has exceeded 3.0.
