Ares Marlonsson has been an offensive spark for the Bruins in the past month.  Last week, he scored two goals to help the men’s soccer tie UNCG 2-2 in their first SoCon match. For his efforts, he was named SoCon Player of the Week.  Presently, he leads the team in goals, assists, and points.

Why did you choose Belmont?

I chose Belmont because it was a perfect fit. The coaches made it evident from the first time we spoke that they were excited at the prospect of me being a Bruin and it was an easy choice considering everything from the neuroscience program, to the school size was exactly what I was looking for.

What do you want to do when you grow up?

In the future I’d like to work with artificial intelligence. I’m getting my degree in neuroscience with hopes to continue my education on to graduate school with a minor focus on computer science and neural networks.

What is your ritual before a game/meet/match?

This is a great question, every athlete has their own quirks before competing. I really like to take a nap before games and listen to my music. Most of the guys hate it but I prefer classical and edm.

Who is your favorite athlete and why?

Lionel Messi, simply the best.

If you didn’t play your sport, what sport would you play & why?

Would focus on academics and play tennis in my free time.

What are you watching on Netflix now?

That 70’s show, Californication and The Office interchangeably for the umpteenth time.

What is your favorite quote?

Newton's Third Law. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
