Cross Town Showdown

Cross Town Showdown

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont baseball welcomes cross-town rival, Lipscomb, to E.S. Rose Park on Tuesday, March 13. First pitch is set for 4:00 p.m.

The Bruins are riding a three-game winning streak. Belmont swept Eastern Kentucky to start off conference play undefeated. After a six-game losing skid, the Bruins found their offensive stride this weekend scoring 22 runs and recording 34 hits this past weekend.

Junior Chas Hadden (Morristown, Tenn,) leads the team with eight stolen bases. Hadden is currently a perfect 8-8 on stolen base attempts. He not only leads the team, but also leads the conference in stolen bases. The Belmont squad has stolen the second most bases in the OVC (25).

The Bruins have hit 47 doubles on the season, the second most in the Ohio Valley Conference only behind Tennessee Tech. The two OVC squads sit atop not only the conference, but the nation. Belmont is second in the nation in doubles per game (3.13).

Belmont sits in the top-three of the conference in seven statistical categories.  Belmont leads the conference in assists (177), stolen bases (25), and saves (5). BU is second in the conference in slugging percentage (.439), doubles (47), total bases (229), steal attempts (28) and third in hits (147).

Head Coach Jeff Forehand is in his 15th year at the Helm of the Lipscomb baseball program. Forehand has earned over 300 runs in his storied career. The Bisons come into the game riding a two-game winning streak. This past weekend, the Bisons won a series against Michigan, winning the Saturday and Sunday matchups. Lipscomb is currently batting an average of .261, having scored 90 runs on 133 hits this season. Jeffrey Crisan leads the squad with a batting average of .485 with 16 hits on 33 at-bats.

Belmont holds a commanding lead over the Bisons. The Bruins are 28-18 all-time against the cross-town rival. The two teams were scheduled to meet twice in the 2017 season. The first game was canceled before the teams met in April. Belmont won that matchup 9-7.
