NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont Baseball hits the road for a weekend series against conference foe Morehead State this weekend.
Belmont is riding a four-game win streak. On Tuesday, BU defeated cross-town rival Lipscomb in dramatic fashion.
After jumping out to a quick lead, Lipscomb rallied in the top of the ninth to tie the score at 7-7. Freshman Jackson Campbell (Russellville, Ky.) was the hero of the game after hitting a walk-off double that gave the Bruins the 8-7 win.
Last weekend the Bruins swept Eastern Kentucky in a three-game series to open conference play.
Junior Chas Hadden (Morristown, Tenn.) leads the team with seven stolen bases. Hadden is currently a perfect 9-9 on stolen base attempts. He not only leads the team, but also leads the conference in stolen bases. The Belmont squad has stolen the most bases in the OVC (30).
The Bruins have hit 251 doubles this season, the most in the Ohio Valley Conference. BU is currently averaging the second-most doubles per game (3.06) in the country behind Tennessee Tech.
Belmont sits atop the conference in several statistical categories. BU leads the conference in steal attempts (33), stolen bases (30), and doubles (49). The Bruins have the second-best batting average (.285) and slugging percentage (.447) and have the second most hits (160).
Belmont leads Eastern Kentucky 31-8 in all-time matchups. The last time the two programs met was in the 2017 OVC tournament. Belmont won that matchup 11-6.
