NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont Baseball rounds out a five-game road stint on Tuesday as they travel to Southern Illinois University for a mid-week tune up.
The Bruins are coming off a road conference series against Eastern Illinois University. The Bruins went 1-2 on the weekend, dropping the Friday and Saturday games before capturing a 5-2 victory on Sunday.
Last weekend, junior Casey Queener (Brentwood, Tenn.) had another impressive outing. After a career day last weekend which earned him OVC Pitcher of the Week Honors, Queener returned to that form. He earned his fourth win of the season after pitching eight innings, allowing seven hits, two runs, and striking out 10.
Sophomore Matt Cogen (Franklin, Tenn.) had a hot bat for Belmont this weekend. He recorded multiple hits in each of the games against Eastern Illinois including a four-hit game on Saturday. During the weekend, Cogen recorded six consecutive hits in as many at bats spanning over two games.
Belmont is second in the conference in stolen bases wtih 47. Chas Hadden leads the Belmont squad with 14 stolen bags, which is the second most in the OVC.
Walk it Out
Junior Chas Hadden has worked a team-high 34 walks this season. His 34 walks are the most in the OVC. He has drawn the 8th most walks in the nation and averages 0.97 walks per game, the 12th most in the nation.
The freshman duo of Kyle Brennan and Logan Bowen have been impressive in relief on the mound for the Bruins. Bowen has made 21 appearances on the season. His 21 appearances are the most of any athlete in the OVC and the ninth most in the country. Kyle Brennan is right behind him with 19 appearances, which is the second most in the conference.
Southern Illinois University leads the all-time series 6-2. The squad's met for a midweek game at E.S. Rose Park earlier this season. The Salukis won that matchup 3-0.
