NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont Baseball will be back on the diamond to face the rival Lipscomb Bisons on April 24th at 6:00 p.m. for a midweek matchup.
About the Bruins
The Bruins are coming off a three-game series against conference foe Jacksonville State. Belmont will look to bounce back from a four-game losing skid.
Belmont has shown some crafty base running this season. The Belmont squad is second in the OVC in stolen bases with 57. Junior Chas Hadden (Morristown, Tenn.) is a big reason the Bruins have stolen so many bags. Hadden is a perfect 16-16 on stolen bases, the second most in the conference. 10 Bruins have stolen at least one base this season.
Walk it Out
Hadden has worked a team-high 41 walks this season. His 41 walks are the most in the OVC. He has drawn the 3rd most walks in the nation and averages 1.05 walks per game, the fourth most in the country. Hadden is currently eight walks away from becoming Belmont's all-time leader in base on balls and 20 away from breaking his single season record from 2016.
The freshman duo of Kyle Brennan and Logan Bowen have been impressive in relief on the mound for the Bruins. Bowen has made 23 appearances on the season. His 23 appearances are the most of any athlete in the OVC and the 11th most in the country. Kyle Brennan is right behind him with 21 appearances, which is the second most in the conference.
Lotz of Klotz
Junior Kyle Klotz was Belmont's go-to hurler in the bullpen for the 2017 season. Klotz made 46 appearances with 62 innings of work. The right-handed hurler tallied an ERA of 4.94 on the year and sat down 43. In his nation leading 46 appearances, Klotz boasted a 3-3 record on the hill for Belmont. He broke the Belmont and Ohio Valley Conference record for single season appearances. He broke Belmont's own Jesse Snodgrass' record of 44 appearances that had held since 2016. Klotz has made 14 appearances this year.
Belmont leads the all-time series 29-18. Earlier this season, the two teams met at Belmont's home field. Belmont won that matchup in exciting fashion, when freshman Jackson Campbell (Russellville, Ky.) blasted a walk-off double in the bottom of the ninth inning after a late Lipscomb rally.
