About The Bruins
Belmont is coming off an exciting three-game conference series. The Bruins went 1-2 against SEMO, taking two of the games to extra innings. The squad dropped the Friday and Saturday games, each by a run, before defeating the Redhawks 10-6 on Sunday.
Sophomore Matt Cogen (Franklin, Tenn.) had an impressive weekend for the Bruins. He was nearly an impossible out, going 9-for-14 on the weekend and rocketed a three-run home run. He also plated the go-ahead run in the top of the tenth on Sunday.
Walk It Out
Junior Chas Hadden (Morristown, Tenn.) has worked a team-high 56 walks this season. His 56 walks are the most in the OVC. He has drawn the 2nd most walks in the nation and averages 1.10 walks per game, the 2nd most in the country. Earlier this season, he became Belmont's all-time leader is walks with his 146th career walk.
Lotz of Klotz
Junior Kyle Klotz (Fairview, Tenn.) was Belmont's go-to hurler in the bullpen for the 2017 season. Klotz made 46 appearances with 62 innings of work. The right-handed hurler tallied an ERA of 4.94 on the year and sat down 43. In his nation leading 46 appearances, Klotz boasted a 3-3 record on the hill for Belmont. He broke the Belmont and Ohio Valley Conference record for single season appearances. He broke Belmont's own Jesse Snodgrass' record of 44 appearances that had held since 2016. Klotz has made 19 appearances this year. He has 95 career appearances, the most in Belmont history. He broke the record this past weekend on Saturday against SEMO.
The freshman duo of Kyle Brennan (Franklin, Tenn.) and Logan Bowen (Bowling Green, Ky.) have been impressive in relief on the mound for the Bruins. Bowen has made 30 appearances on the season. His 30 appearances are the most of any athlete in the OVC and the 9th most in the country. Kyle Brennan is right behind him with 27 appearances, which is the second most in the conference.
Out of The Park
The Bruins' bats were hot this past weekend in Cap Girardeau, Mo. Against Southeast Missouri. Belmont rocketed five long balls, recording at least one every game. Senior Kyle Conger (Brentwood, Tenn.) hit the Bruins' first grand slam in Sunday's victory.
