Headed For The Hilltoppers

Headed For The Hilltoppers

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Riding momentum from an Ohio Valley Conference series victory this weekend, Belmont University Baseball returns to action for a midweek game at Western Kentucky University. First Pitch at Nick Denes Field is slated for 5:00 p.m. CT.

Belmont and Western Kentucky are 24-24 all time in the NCAA era. Last season, Belmont and Western Kentucky met twice in a home and away series. The teams first met in Bowling Green and concluded with a game in Nashville. WKU won the series, defeating Belmont in both matchups.

Senior Devon Gardner (Maryville, Tenn.) had incredible week last week and was a thorn in Eastern Illinois University's side all weekend. In Saturday's double-header, Gardner went six-for-nine and batted five in. In game two of the twin bill, Gardner hammered three home runs in his four at-bats. In addition, Gardner had two impressive assists from right field, one to home plate and one to third base.

Senior Chas Hadden (Morristown, Tenn.) has historically been an offensive force for the Bruins but has had a slower start to his senior campaign. However, Hadden has heated up as of late. Last week alone he notched six hits with two multi-hit games and drove in four runs. He continues to have nice at-bats, working several walks for an impressive on-base percentage.

Sophomore Kyle Brennan (Franklin, Tenn.) has been incredibly impressive as a reliever on the mound. He has thrown 19-straight scoreless innings, dating back to March 2 against Bowling Green State University. In this stretch he has walked just three batters and has notched 13 strikeouts, including a 5.1 inning scoreless relief appearance against SIUE.

The game will be streamed online via Conference USA's streaming site. Live stats will also be available along with live updates on twitter (@belmontbaseball).
