KANSAS CITY, Mo. - - Belmont University men's basketball received the inaugural Team Academic Excellence Award from the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Thursday.
This news comes one day after four Bruins - rising seniors J.J. Mann (Smyrna, Ga.) and Drew Windler (South Milwaukee, Wisc.) and rising juniors Reece Chamberlain (Goodlettsville, Tenn.) and Holden Mobley (Nashville, Tenn.) - were named to the NABC Honors Court for outstanding academic achievement.
Created by the NABC Committee on Academics, the Team Academic Excellence Award recognizes superior academic achievement by a team with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better for the 2012-13 season.
In order to earn a NABC Team Academic Excellence Award, an institution must count the grade point averages of all men's student-athletes competing during the 2012-13 season in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA Division I and II.
Belmont is one of only 21 NCAA Division I men's basketball programs to be honored.
