NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - In a survey of NCAA Division I head coaches conducted by, Belmont University men's basketball head coach Rick Byrd was ranked among the nation's best tacticians.

Conducted by respected college basketball insider Jeff Goodman, the poll ranked NCAA Division I men's basketball head coaches based on their ability to communicate and execute a gameplan, make in-game adjustments, and diagram plays.

The top 25 vote getters made the list, with Byrd placing ninth. As one would expect, the list is comprised of college basketball coaching royalty, including the likes of Tom Izzo, Rick Pitino, Bill Self, Mike Krzyzewski, and Tom Crean.

Byrd, an 11-time District or Conference Coach of the Year, was inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame this spring.

He ranks seventh among all active NCAA Division I head coaches with 663 career victories.

Byrd has led Belmont to six NCAA Tournament appearances in the last eight years.
