Men's Basketball Awaits Postseason Fate

Men's Basketball Awaits Postseason Fate

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University men's basketball remains hard at work as it prepares to learn its postseason fate Sunday.

The Bruins (24-9), fresh off a fifth consecutive conference regular season championship and trip to the conference tournament final for a seventh time in nine years, cemented their reputation for fearlessness in scheduling.

After sporting the No. 2 non-conference strength of schedule in America a year ago, Belmont currently boasts the No. 33 non-conference strength of schedule. That includes victories at North Carolina, at Middle Tennessee and versus Indiana State, and narrow setbacks at Kentucky, versus VCU and at Richmond.

The Bruins' December slate featured six straight contests – including five straight on the road – against postseason teams from 2012-13.

That rigorous examination yielded dividends in conference play, as for the second consecutive season Belmont won the Ohio Valley Conference regular season with a 14-2 record.

Once again, Belmont ranks among the NCAA leaders in road/neutral victories (12).

As postseason invitations are announced Sunday night, Belmont has positioned itself to host a first round game in the upcoming Postseason NIT.

This opportunity affords Bruin fans the rare opportunity of witnessing postseason play in the Curb Event Center.

NIT first round games will take place either Tuesday, March 18 or Wednesday, March 19, with times to be determined.

The NIT Selection Show will air Sunday night at 7:30 p.m. CT on ESPNU and the WatchESPN app.

Should Belmont be selected to host its first round game, tickets will go on sale online at www.belmontbruins.com on Sunday night at 8 p.m. CT. The Curb Event Center box office will open for ticket sales during the hours of 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. on Monday, March 17.

NOTE: To expedite entrance into the arena, fans are encouraged to purchase their tickets online and print them at home OR purchase and pick up tickets from the Curb Event Center box office prior to game day.  All fans must purchase a ticket for this postseason event.

As a big thank you to Belmont students for coming out to the Curb in record numbers this season, the cost of student tickets will be covered by a loyal Bruin supporter should Belmont be chosen as a host site!  More information on student ticketing will be released at a later date.

Should you have any questions regarding tickets, please contact the Curb Event Center box office at 615-460-BALL.

If Belmont is slated to play on the road, Bruin fans are encouraged to contact the ticket office of the host institution.

All games in the Postseason NIT will be carried on the ESPN family of networks.
