NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University Athletics announced Thursday extension of its men's basketball game coverage on WGFX-FM 104.5 The Zone.
The Bruins, the only middle Tennessee sports entity to have games aired on WGFX-FM since the station adopted a sports talk format in the fall of 2003, have an option for up to 16 regular season games and all postseason games on 104.5 The Zone. Belmont has had 41 games live on 104.5 The Zone over the last two seasons, including 20 a year ago.
Voice of the Bruins Kevin Ingram will return for his 13th season at the microphone for Belmont men's basketball. Ingram, whose resume includes co-hosting 104.5 The Zone's top-rated Wake Up Zone and serving as the lead broadcaster for SEC Network programming and the Ohio Valley Conference television football package, can be heard on all Bruin Sports Network broadcasts throughout the season via belmontbruins.com and Bruins Mobile.
"This is another significant announcement for our men's basketball program," Belmont University Director of Athletics Mike Strickland said. "From its highly-rated sports talk lineup to its acclaimed live broadcasts, 104.5 The Zone offers undeniable exposure and credibility. For us to be able to reiterate that our games are on the unquestioned sports radio leader in Nashville and the Home of the Titans is a big deal. Moreover, the ability to have Kevin Ingram – one of the most respected broadcasters around – continue to call our games is tremendous for us in the OVC."
104.5 The Zone was a finalist for Sports Station of the Year at the 2011 National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Marconi Awards for excellence in broadcasting.
The 104.5 The Zone offerings - which annually rank among the nation's highest-rated sports talk lineups - include popular local programming in the Wake Up Zone, The Midday 180, and 3HL, the nationally-syndicated Dan Patrick Show, as well as the exclusive broadcast rights to the Tennessee Titans.
"We are thrilled to continue our partnership with the Belmont Bruins," 104.5 The Zone Program Director Brad Willis said. "Coach Byrd always brings an exciting, fun-to-watch team to the court every year, and we're proud to be Belmont's on-air home."
Belmont opens regular season play Nov. 14 at Wright State.
