NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University men's basketball returns to game action at Eastern Kentucky Thursday.
The Bruins defeated Tennessee Tech, 71-53, Jan. 31. Sophomore Evan Bradds (Jamestown, Ohio) was named OVC Player of the Week Monday.
Belmont and Eastern Kentucky each made the 2007 NCAA Tournament, playing respective first round games at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Winston-Salem, N.C. Belmont faced East No. 2 seed Georgetown, while Eastern Kentucky faced East No. 1 seed North Carolina.
Former Belmont forward Keaton Belcher ('10) served as a graduate assistant at Eastern Kentucky in 2010-11.
This marks the eighth meeting between Belmont and Eastern Kentucky, and sixth in OVC play. Belmont has won three of the last five meetings.
In last year's OVC Championship game, Eastern Kentucky denied Belmont a rare opportunity of becoming the first NCAA Division I men's basketball program since Gonzaga (2004-07) to win four consecutive conference regular season AND tournament championships (NOTE: Memphis (2006-09) pulled the feat but the 2008 season was vacated by the NCAA).
Tip-off is set for 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU and the WatchESPN app. The live play-by-play can be heard on the Bruin Sports Network and 104.5 The Zone. In-game updates will be available on Twitter @BelmontMBB.
