Trevecca Nazarene Game Preview

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University men's basketball returns to game action Tuesday vs. Trevecca Nazarene.

The Bruins defeated Lipscomb, 87-83, Nov. 15. Freshman Caleb Hollander (Nashville, Tenn.) had 21 points and 11 rebounds for the Bruins for his first career double-double.

Freshman Grayson Murphy added 17 points, five rebounds and six assists while freshman Nick Muszynski (Pickerington, Ohio) tallied 16 points, nine rebounds, five blocked shots and three assists en route to OVC Freshman of the Week honors.

Senior Kevin McClain (Jennings, Fla.) has scored in double figures in each of Belmont's first three games and 12 of his last 14 games dating back to last season. McClain was a Preseason All-OVC selection.

Murphy and Trevecca forward Malcolm Walker both attended Independence High School, while Hollander and Trevecca guard CJ Herbert both attended Nashville Central Christian.

Former Belmont point guard Reece Chamberlain ('15) is an assistant coach at Trevecca Nazarene. Chamberlain was part of four conference conference championships teams, three NCAA Tournament teams, and one NIT Elite Eight team. Chamberlain was a finalist for the 2015 Senior CLASS Award.

Former Belmont All-America guard Alex Renfroe ('09) was an NAIA All-American at Trevecca. Renfroe played two seasons at Trevecca before playing the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons at Belmont. Renfroe was the 2009 Atlantic Sun Player of the Year. In his ninth professional season, Renfroe currently plays for Baxi Manresa in Spain.

This marks the 71st meeting between Belmont and Trevecca Nazarene. The former NAIA rivals are meeting for the sixth time in Belmont's NCAA Division I era. The Bruins won, 96-45, Feb. 21, 2017 at the Curb Event Center. Belmont won, 91-64, in an exhibition game at Trevecca last season.
