Senior Day to Remember

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Behind six double figure scorers, Belmont University men's basketball defeated SIU Edwardsville, 97-75, Saturday night.

But Belmont responded, scoring 30 of the final 41 points of the first half.

Junior Michael Benkert (Greenwood, Ind.) scored five straight points to give Belmont a 52-43 lead at halftime.

From there, Belmont rode the post play of freshman Nick Muszynski (Pickerington, Ohio), who scored or assisted on 14 points in the first 5:20 of the second half.

As the Bruin defense and rebounding intensified, consecutive driving layins from freshman Grayson Murphy (Franklin, Tenn.) and McClain made the score 75-56 with 11:33 remaining.

Belmont scored 52 points in the paint and 33 points off the bench.

A 3-pointer from freshman Caleb Hollander (Nashville, Tenn.) stretched the margin to 24, 94-70, with 2:04 left.
