"We're excited to welcome Mick back to Belmont," Alexander said. "I cannot think of anyone who better reflects the Belmont values and successes than Mick Hedgepeth: an all-conference player, a national student-athlete of the year, and someone who embraces his role as an ambassador for our university. Mick is an unbelievable addition to our staff, with proven head coaching credentials. He will make our program better right away."

In his two seasons directing the Sewanee program, Hedgepeth led the Tigers to a 36-18 record. This past season, Sewanee went 22-7 and won the Southern Athletic Association tournament title to earn the school's fifth NCAA Tournament appearance.

The Tigers ranked fifth nationally in 3-point field goal percentage defense.

In addition to time as a Sewanee assistant, Hedgepeth began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Williams College (MA), one of the most tradition-rich Division III programs in the nation.

During his Bruin playing career, Hedgepeth was an integral figure in 96 victories, three postseason appearances, three Atlantic Sun Conference regular season championships, two Atlantic Sun Conference tournament championships and two NCAA Tournament appearances (2011 Wisconsin, 2012 Georgetown).

A two-time Second Team All-Atlantic Sun honoree and the 2011 Atlantic Sun Tournament Most Valuable Player, Hedgepeth ranks among program leaders in points (1,191), rebounds (692), blocked shots (78), field goal percentage (.540) and games played (134).

Off the court, Hedgepeth was a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection, and received postgraduate scholarships from the NCAA and the Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association (DI-AAA ADA). Moreover, the 6-9 forward represented Belmont at the 2012 Final Four in New Orleans as one of 10 finalists for the prestigious Senior CLASS Award.

Hedgepeth was named DI-AAA ADA men's basketball scholar-athlete of the year in 2011.
