Ian Clark Named Atlantic Sun Player of the Week

NASHVILLE, TENN. - - Belmont men's basketball freshman Ian Clark (Memphis, Tenn.) was named Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

The 6-3 shooting guard averaged 23.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.5 steals per game this past week as the Bruins defeated Jacksonville and North Florida to move into a tie for first place in the Atlantic Sun Conference standings.

Clark tied his career-high with 31 points on 11-for-14 shooting from the field against North Florida Feb. 7. Moreover, Clark was 9-for-11 from three-point territory, joining Jake Thomas of NCAA Division-I transitional program South Dakota as the only freshmen in the nation to make nine three-point field goals in a game this season.

All told, Clark ranks third among freshmen nationally in made three-point field goals this season with 61.

Clark also scored nine of his team-high 16 points in the final six minutes of regulation against Jacksonville Feb. 5. His straight-on three-pointer with 1:15 left gave the Bruins a 69-63 lead. The Bruins went on to defeat the Dolphins, 73-70, snapping Jacksonville's 10-game win streak.

For the week, Clark shot 57 percent from the field and 67 percent from three-point range. In league games, Clark ranks among the Atlantic Sun leaders in seven categories. He leads the Bruins in scoring at 14.7 points per game, vying to become the first freshman of Belmont's NCAA era to lead the team in scoring.

The Bruins (15-10, 10-5 Atlantic Sun) return to action Saturday, Feb. 13 at USC Upstate. Tip-off is set for 1 pm CT.
