HOOVER, Ala. – The Belmont men's golf tied for fifth place at the Samford intercollegiate held this week at the Hoover Country Club in Hoover, Alabama.
Belmont shot team scores of 298 and 308 on Tuesday to finish in a tie with Western Carolina and Winthrop for fifth place with a 54-hole mark of 904. Host Samford was the tournament champion at 882, with Austin Peay and Davidson tied for second place and Sam Houston State in fourth place. It was the team's second top-five finish of the season.
Two Bruins placed among the top-25. Junior Elliott Wickenden finished in fourth place with a score of 217. It was his best finish of the season and his third top-10 in six events. Sophomore Ben Simpson tied for 23rd place after carding a 228 for 54-holes. Other Belmont scores from the event included: freshman Carson Ward (T-40th, 232), freshman Ted Moon (T-46th, 233), and freshman Chris Thurman (65th, 237).
The men's golf team is back in action this Saturday and Sunday (March 10 and 11) at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
