SAVANNAH, Ga. – On their first day of the spring season, the Belmont men's golf team played solid golf and finished the day in second place after 36 holes of The Invitational at Savannah Harbor held Monday at The Club at Savannah Harbor in Savannah, Georgia.
The Bruins carded rounds of 289 and 285 to finish the day in second place with a score of 574. They are eight shots behind tournament leader and host William and Mary. BU is one shot ahead of third place and fellow OVC member Eastern Kentucky (575). USC-Beaufort is in fourth place at 576.
Three Belmont golfers are in the top-15 after day one. Sophomore Daniel Booker and freshman McCullough Pickens are each tied for second place at 140 (-4). Booker posted a 70 in each of his rounds on Monday. Pickens, playing not too far from his home in Sea Island, Georgia, carded rounds of 68 and 72. They are two shots behind individual leader Austin Morrison of William and Mary (138).
Freshman Nate Thomson is tied for 12th place at 144 after shooting rounds of 73 and 71.
"It was a good first day of the spring season," said Scott Flynn, Belmont's head coach. "Our guys did a good job of committing to our game plan and playing smart golf."
