NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont men's golf team opens up their spring season this Saturday and Sunday at The Invitational at Savannah Harbor in Savannah, Georgia.
The Bruins hope to bounce back from a fall season where they struggled on the course. In six events, they had four top-10 finishes, including eighth place finishes at Austin Peay and MTSU.
Individually, BU is led by junior Daniel Booker and sophomore Nate Thomson. Each has a scoring average of 73.6, which also ranks among the top-20 in the OVC. Booker has three top-20 finishes, while Thomson had the top finish of the fall season, a sixth place showing at Austin Peay last October.
The event in Savannah is the first of six tournaments Belmont will play this spring. After this weekend, they have two events in March, the Pinehurst Intercollegiate on March 9-11 and the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate in Sevierville, Tennessee on March 18-20.
After a couple of weeks off, BU plays two consecutive weeks, at Arkansas State on April 2-3 and then at Lipscomb's Ryman Intercollegiate on April 9-10 at Nashville's Richland Country Club. The season wraps on April 23-25 at the OVC Championship in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
This weekend's Invitational at Savannah Harbor is a two-day, 54-hole event, with 36 holes on Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday. It will be played at The Club at Savannah Harbor, which will play to a par 72 and a length of 7,287 yards. The field features 16 teams, including host William and Mary, Brown, Butler, Ohio, Valparaiso, and fellow OVC members Austin Peay and Tennessee Tech.
Day one play begins Saturday morning at 7:15am CT. Live scoring can be found at BelmontBruins.com or birdiefire.com.
