UIC Upends Bruins on Senior Day

NASHVILLE, Tenn.- The Belmont University men's soccer team (4-12-2, 1-6-1) dropped a 4-1 decision to the visiting UIC Flames, Saturday afternoon at E.S. Rose Park.

Battling the elements for the third-straight match, the Bruins saw their senior day spoiled by UIC, who has now won three straight.

The Bruins faced a 4-1 deficit at the half as UIC came out on fire and opened the match very aggressive, and determined on the offensive end. The Flames scored in the sixth minute when Manny Chavez scored his fifth goal of season.  Despite matching UIC with five second half shot attempts, the Bruins were not able to shake off the slow start and were defeated by the Horizon League's first place team.

Sophomore Rashad Hyacenth (D'Abadie, Trinidad and Tobago) scored his league-high seventh goal of the season in the loss, as he found the back of the net in the 38th minute. Hyacenth finished with a season-high eight shots on the match.

UIC won the shot count 16-10, as they recorded 11 of them in the match's first 45 minutes.

With the win, UIC is now the Horizon League regular season champion and has clinched the No. 1 seed in tournament action.

Saturday's starting 11 featured five seniors as Anthony Torres (Batavia, Ill.), Raphael Colmanette (Sao Paulo, Brazil), Sam Black (Douglas Isle of Man, UK), Joonas Bask (Espoo, Finland), and Pedro Balaguer (Nashville, Tenn.), as they all started their final match at Rose Park. Fellow seniors, Nick Clarke (Perryville, Md.) and Bryan Eoff (Clarksville, Tenn.) also appeared off the Bruin bench, as all seven seniors saw action on Saturday.

The 2015 senior class has been instrumental in the elevation of the Belmont men's soccer program as they transitioned from an Independent to an affiliate member of the highly competitive Horizon League conference last season.  The seniors were honored in a pre-match ceremony.

Belmont has just one match remaining on the 2015 slate of games as it travels to Detroit for its season finale next Friday afternoon in the Motor City.
