NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont University men's soccer opens its 2018 campaign with a road exhibition match at Central Arkansas Saturday evening. Saturday's match will mark the first of three exhibition matches set for the preseason and the only one away from Belmont's home pitch.
Belmont is coming off a 2017 campaign that was its final season as an affiliate member of the Horizon League. In head coach Bryan Green's fourth season, the Bruins improved on their 2016 win total, scoring more goals and allowing fewer. The BU squad also tied the program record set in 2004 for the fewest goals allowed in a season (22).
The exhibition slate will be a good opportunity for the Bruins to test its depth with 19 veterans returning, including reigning Horizon League Freshman of the Year Matteo Bennati (Genova, Italy), as well as give the eight newcomers an opportunity to showcase their skills.
