NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont University men's soccer will host a pair of exhibition matches this week in final preparation for the 2018 campaign. The squad will host Tusculum at 6:30 pm Wednesday, August 15 and Bradley at 12:00 PM on Saturday, August 18.
This week's matches will mark the final two of three exhibition matches for the preseason. Last weekend, the Bruins traveled to Conway, Arkansas where they took on the Central Arkansas Bears. The match against the reigning Missouri Valley Champions ended in a 0-0 stalemate.
Head coach Allen Vital is in his eighth campaign at his alma mater of Tusculum. Although the Pioneers won just two games last season, they drew a school-high six times. Furthermore, the Pioneers trailed by more than one goal for just over 47 minutes of the entire 2017 season. Wednesday's matchup is sure to be a defensive showcase as Belmont, who allowed the fewest goals in program history a year ago, will match up well against the airtight Tusculum defense.
Bradley is led by veteran head coach Jim DeRose who is at the helm for his 23rdseason for the Braves. Another Missouri Valley Conference opponent, the Braves have a wealth of returners with 22 players returning to the 2018 roster. Bradley boasted an impressive 11-7-3 campaign in 2017 that saw a third-place conference finish and a semifinal appearance in the MVC Men's Soccer tournament. Belmont will look to stifle a high-octane Braves offense that scored 29 goals and averaged over 11 shots a game last season.
Both matches will be hosted at E.S. Rose Park with free admission.
