Up Next: Eastern Illinois

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont University men's soccer is back in action after a full week of rest on Tuesday, September 25 as it hosts Eastern Illinois for a 6:30 p.m. CT kickoff. The Bruins will ride momentum from a 1-0 double overtime win against Presbyterian last Tuesday and attempt to secure its first home victory of the 2018 season.

SERIES BREAKDOWN

Eastern Illinois narrowly holds the all-time series lead 4-3-0. The two sides met just last season at Eastern Illinois where Belmont earned the 2-1 overtime victory.

GET TO KNOW THE PANTHERS

Eastern Illinois men's soccer is 2-4-2 on the season coming into Tuesday's match. The Panthers started on a strong note, defeating Cincinnati on the road in its opening match. However, the Panthers have struggled since then, winning only one other match. The Panthers have scored five goals this season but have been impressive defensively holding its opponents to just eight. The side is likely to be on the attack early in the match but have had issues sustaining its attacking pressure. Four of EIU's five goals have been scored in the first half of matches this season.

LOOKING FOR A STREAK

After defeating Presbyterian on Tuesday, the Bruins have the opportunity to go on its first winning streak of the 2018 campaign. Interestingly enough, Belmont's last winning streak started last season with back-to-back victories over IUPUI and Eastern Illinois.

MARLONSSON MAKES HIS MARK

Freshman Ares Marlonsson (Denver, Colo.) scored his first career goal last time out against Presbyterian. His 101stminute strike proved to be the game-winner in double overtime. His game-winning goal propelled the Bruins' to its first victory of the season. Marlonsson already has two assists on the season, having played a part in three of BU's five goals.

STOUT DEFENSE

Even though the Bruins have been peppered with shots this season, the side has done a great job of keeping balls out of the net in the latter stages of matches. Belmont has made an impressive 29 saves in the second-half of its matches this season. Those 29 saves are more than three Southern Conference teams have made as a squad this season.
