NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont University Men's Soccer heads to UNC Wilmington for its final non-conference match of the season Saturday night. Kickoff is slated for 6:00 p.m. CT at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.
The two teams have only met one time in their history. The meeting was in 2001 at the VMI/Kappa Invitational in Lexington, Va. UNCW defeated Belmont 2-1 in that match.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Freshman Ares Marlonsson (Denver, Colo.) was named SoCon Player of the Week the league announced Tuesday morning. The honor came after his two-goal performance against conference foe, UNCG on Saturday. The brace was the first one at Belmont since 2015. Marlonsson has been a key part of the BU offense this season leading the team in both assists and goals. He has scored three goals and dished out four assists already this season.
DOELLEFELD DISHES IT OUT
Senior Tony Doellefeld (St. Louis, Mo.) has proven to be an offensive playmaker for the Bruins this season. He has dished out three assists for three points this season.
HIGH OCTANE OFFENSE
Belmont is on pace to have one of its best offensive seasons in years. The Bruins have scored 12 goals already this season and is quickly approaching last season's mark of 16 goals in the regular season. In fact, the Bruins are averaging more than a goal a game and has scored multiple goals on four occasions this season, tying last year's mark.
GET TO KNOW THE SEAHAWKS
The Seahawks come into Saturday's match with a 9-2-1 record on the season. The match will mark the start of a five-game homestand for UNCW. This is the first game that has been played at their home stadium since Hurricane Florence blew through. The Seahawks have been good at home this season, winning two of its three matches on its home pitch. UNCW has to big offensive threats this season in Phillip Goodrum and Emil Elveroth. The pair have scored a combined 14 goals and dished out seven assists.
