NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont University men's soccer kicks off its last week of regular season play with a trip to Johnson City, Tenn. for a SoCon battle with ETSU. Kickoff is slated for 6:00 p.m. CT on Tuesday.
Belmont and ETSU have met four times in program history with a series record of 2-2-0. Tuesday's match will be the first time the teams have played since 2011 when ETSU, who was nationally ranked, defeated the Bruins 3-1.
GET TO KNOW ETSU
After going 0-3 to start the season, the Bucs have improved to 7-6-1 on the year and have won 7 of its last 11 games. The side is still in the mix for the SoCon regular-season title, currently sitting in third place. Danny Barlow has given opponents issues all season. His team-leading eight goals are also tied for the conference lead. In its last outing, ETSU suffered a rare conference loss, falling to Furman 2-0 in Johnson City. The loss was the first regular-season SoCon loss since October of 2015.
LAST TIME OUT
Last time on the pitch the Bruins traveled to South Carolina to take on SoCon opponent Wofford. After the Bruins took a 1-0 lead in the first half, Wofford bounced back and ultimately defeated Belmont 3-2. The Bruins are still searching for its first SoCon win of the season.
BENNATI HEATS UP
Reining Horizon League Freshman of the Year Matteo Bennati (Genova, Italy) has been in good form as of late. On Saturday at Wofford, Bennati was an important part of the Belmont offense, assisting the first Belmont goal and scoring the second. His goal Saturday night was a team-high fourth this season.
