NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont University men's soccer has four Southern Conference post-season honoree's the league announced Tuesday. The Bruins have one athlete, sophomore Matteo Bennati (Genova, Italy) on the All-Conference second team and three athletes, Daniel Twizer (Haifa, Italy), Ares Marlonsson (Denver, Colo.) and Niccolo Dagnoni (Milan, Italy), on the All-Freshman team.
The All-Conference award marks the second consecutive season Matteo Bennati has earned a post-season honor. After a breakout freshman campaign, Bennati was just as important to Belmont's offensive threat this season. He led the team with seven goals and added three assists for a team-high 17 points.
Belmont was joined by Mercer with a league-high three All-Freshman honorees. Ares Marlonsson, who received All-Conference Player of the Week honors earlier this season, earned post-season accolades after scoring four goals and dishing out a team-high five assists for 13 points. Marlonsson scored a brace in BU's first ever SoCon match against UNCG earlier this season, marking the first multi-goal game for Belmont since the 2015 season.
Daniel Twizer and Niccolo Dagnoni also joined Marlonsson as All-Freshman honorees. Twizer, who split his time as a defender and a midfielder, was a staple for the Bruins and added two goals and two assists on the season. Dagnoni proved to be one of the most creative and important pieces in the Bruins' midfield in his freshman season. He netted three goals, including a game-winner against Eastern Illinois, and dished out four assists for 10 points.
As a first year affiliate member of the SoCon, the awards mark the first post-season SoCon honors for the Belmont.
