SPARTANBURG, S. C. – Several members of the Belmont Men's Soccer program have earned academic honors from the Southern Conference as the conference announced its awards on Wednesday afternoon.
Sixteen men's soccer players earned a spot on the 2018-19 Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll. To earn a spot on the honor roll, an individual must compete in a varsity sport, maintain a 3.0 grade point average, were eligible the entire academic year and were members of the final squad lists. The Belmont student-athletes that were honored included: Sam Borgel, George Bukenya, Niccolo Dagnoni, Creaghan Diekema, Max Diez, Nicolo Dini, Tony Doellefeld, Nigel Leo, Esteban Lestido, Ares Marlonsson, Peyton Netherton, Cam Petty, Declan Porter, Brett Royster, Adam Voloder, and Matt Vuylsteke.
Four of these honorees, Diekema, Dini, Royster, and Vuylsteke, were among 517 Southern Conference student-athletes awarded the Commissioner's Medal. The medal is for those student-athletes who maintained a 3.8 grade point average of higher.
In addition, Diekema is one of 167 Southern Conference student-athletes who posted a 4.0 grade point average.
The men's soccer team opens their 2019 season with an exhibition match with Central Arkansas on August 18.
