Men's Tennis Has a Solid Weekend at the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont men's tennis team had another successful weekend as a number of Bruins competed at the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships hosted by the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee.

In singles, three players finished with a record of 1-1.  Senior Rodrigo Amaral won his first round match over Juan Ramirez of ETSU 6-1, 6-2, but fell in the second round to Eric Quigley of Kentucky 6-2, 6-0.  Fellow senior Rafael Matos beat Carles Pons of Eastern Kentucky 7-5, 6-4 in the first round, but lost his second round match to Albert Wagner of Louisville 6-3, 6-4.  Junior Henrique Norbato beat Chattanooga's Chris Smith 7-5, 6-4 in his first round match, but fell to Aaron Dujovne of Purdue 6-2, 6-1 in the second round. 

In the doubles draw, both Belmont duos finished with 1-1 records.  Renato Antun and Rafael Matos beat Daniel Heibel and Jose Bernardo of Mississippi State 8-4 in the first round, but fell to Alex Musialek and Eric Quigley of Kentucky in the second round.  The other BU duo, Rodrigo Amaral and Henrique Norbiato, won their first round match over Robert Salcedo and Joe West of Dayton 8-6, but lost in the next round to Billy Weldon and Austin Woldmoe of Butler 8-2.

This tournament wraps up the fall season for the Belmont men's tennis team.  They will begin their 2012 spring season on Wednesday, January 25th at Austin Peay.
