NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Four Belmont University men's tennis players have been honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) as the organization announced its Academic Awards for the 2016-17 academic year recently. May graduate Bruno Russo (Sao Paulo, Brazil) was honored along with rising senior Caio Niel (Sao Palo, Brazil) and rising sophomores Hendrik Inno (Someru, Estonia) and Vincent Sterkens (Antwerp, Belgium) were all named 2017 All-Academic Scholar Athletes.
It is the third consecutive year Niel has garnered the distinction. Russo came away with the honor in back-to-back years while Inno and Sterkens make their debuts on the elite list in their first years of collegiate play.
The four Bruins join four student-athletes from Austin Peay as the lone representatives of the Ohio Valley Conference on this year's list. Belmont is only one of four universities in the state of Tennessee to have honors.
To earn the ITA Scholar-Athlete Award, a player must be a varsity letterwinner, have a GPA of 3.50 or higher, and been enrolled at the school for two semesters.
