NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Belmont Men's Tennis team (3-4) travels to Illinois this weekend for a pair of matches. The Bruins take on the Wright State (2-2) on Saturday as a neutral site duel before facing off against Illinois State (2-2) on Sunday.
The youthful corps is starting to find a groove as the indoor season progresses. After a very successful homestand at Centennial Sportsplex, BU stands 3-4 on the season.
It will be very interesting to see what freshman Marko Ilić (Zagreb, Croatia) can do on the road coming off of a successful weekend. His play against Kennesaw State and Chattanooga earned him his first OVC Player of the Week nod, as he won both of his doubles matches with sophomore Hendrik Inno (Tallinn, Estonia) at No. 1, as well as both of his singles matches at the No. 2 position.
Inno has been playing well at the No. 1 doubles position with partner Ilić, and he has a 5-2 record at No. 1 in singles. Freshman Jake Briggs (Calhoun, Ga.) recorded his first collegiate singles victory against Chattanooga and will be looking to build off of that decisive performance with this weekend's matches.
The Raiders, who stand at 2-2 on the season, will be on the road as well, marking their second stop of the weekend in Normal, Ill., to face off against Illinois State in the morning and the Bruins on Saturday night.
BU will then remain at the Bloomington Tennis Center as they will take on the Redbirds on Sunday. The Redbirds, who stand at 2-2, enter the weekend on a two-match winning streak. Like Belmont, the Redbirds will also be playing their second match of the weekend, as they will be facing Wright State the day before.
Saturday's match against Wright State is set to begin at 6 p.m. while Sunday's match versus Illinois State is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
