NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University men's tennis was well-represented on the 2019 OVC Men's Tennis Postseason Awards, announced Thursday.
Junior Hendrik Inno (Someru, Estonia) was named OVC Player of the Year and All-OVC First Team, sophomore Marko Ilic (Zagreb, Croatia) was named All-OVC First Team and director of tennis Mauricio Antun was named OVC Coach of the Year.
Inno, named conference player of the year for a second consecutive season, has posted a team-high 20 singles' victories and won eight of his last nine matches at top singles. He became the first Belmont player ever to represent the school at the ITA Oracle Masters and defeated players from the likes of Vanderbilt, Louisville, Xavier, UAB, Memphis and Furman.
Like Inno, Ilic earned All-OVC First Team honors for a second consecutive year. The Croatia native has registered 17 singles' victories to date, including 13 in straight sets.
Inno and Ilic emerged as one of the top doubles' teams in the nation. After beating top 10 duos from Tennessee and Vanderbilt en route to the ITA Fall Regionals Championship, Inno and Ilic became the first Belmont players - male or female - to qualify for ITA Fall Nationals. They are ranked No. 35 in the ITA National Doubles' Rankings this week.
It has been over two months since the Inno/Ilic pairing has lost a doubles' match.
Antun earned a second consecutive OVC Coach of the Year nod after leading the Bruins to back-to-back conference regular season championships.
Belmont opens OVC Tournament play Saturday vs. the winner of Jacksonville State/Tennessee State. First serve is set for 2 p.m. CT from Hadley Park in Nashville.
