Austin Peay Track Meet Preview

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont Bruins track and field teams have a full day on the docket at Austin Peay's Governors Invitational. With inclement weather on the horizon this weekend, the Governors Invitational is being condensed and contested entirely on Friday.

Action from Clarksville, Tenn., begins at 11 a.m. Friday in the field. The first track event starts at 2:30 p.m.

This is the Belmont's second meet in three weeks to be altered by thunderstorms. The Bruins' stay at Southeast Missouri's Joey Haines Invitational on March 30 was cut short by wind and driving rain.

"This meet will be the first good chance for all the athletes that were at SEMO to get a chance to really run since Vanderbilt," said Belmont Associate Head Track Coach Cameron Harvey. "The sprinters and jumpers that competed at SEMO definitely were at a disadvantage due to the weather, so it's good to see the meet managers at Austin Peay make a change so we don't have to live through that again."

The Bruins will continue to look to put down good seed times and marks while jockeying for position with the Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Championships coming up in less than a month.

Following the shortened one-day APSU meet, Belmont has just two weekends of meets left on the regular-season calendar.

Then comes the OVC Championships, slated May 9-11 at Cape Girardeau, Mo.
