NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University director of cross country Jeff Langdon released the program's fall 2018 schedule Tuesday.
Men's cross country, boasting 18 consecutive regional Top 15 rankings in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) poll and six conference championships, return a trio of All-OVC runners accustomed to the conference medal podium.
"We have our schedule set up well to accomplish what we hope to realize this season," Langdon said. "While we haven't changed our schedule much from years' past, this year's schedule features some variety."
After traditional icebreaker meets in the Belmont Opener (Aug. 31) and Commodore Classic (Sept. 15), the Bruins venture to Big 10 country for an assembly of the nation's best.
"We've added the NCAA Pre-National meet at the University of Wisconsin," Langdon added. "Perhaps we're taking a bit of a risk by signing on, but this is another big opportunity to beat some ranked teams and put our program on the national map. Last season, our men's team took a major step forward in beating perennial powerhouse programs such as Texas A&M, Missouri, Oklahoma, Louisville, North Carolina, Georgia Tech and nationally-ranked Princeton. In addition, we went toe to toe with Middle Tennessee and Alabama (ranked 12th and 23rd nationally last year, respectively). We are hoping to take that next step forward."
The 2018 OVC Championships will be held Oct. 27, hosted by Southeast Missouri.
13 days later, the Bruins and their area rivals will descend upon Florida State University for the NCAA South Region meet.
The NCAA National Championship meet is slated for Nov. 17 in Madison, Wisconsin.
Belmont ranked 11th in the final 2017 USTFCCCA South Region poll.
