Belmont Returns to Percy Warner Park

NASHVILLE, Tn — The Belmont men's cross country team returns to action this Saturday to race in the Commodore Classic 8K run, hosted by Vanderbilt University, at Percy Warner Park in Nashville.

The team enjoyed a comfortable victory in their previous race, the Belmont Opener 5K, in which four of Belmont's runners, including freshman Jacob McLeod who won the race with a time of 15:24.85, took the top four spots, and nine runners finished in the top 12.

This race will present a different challenge for Belmont, as it will be the squad's first 8K of the season.

"We are very excited to see what our guys can do in the 8K setting," says Jeff Langdon, head director of Belmont cross country. "We will have a full squad competing at the Commodore Classic, and we are looking forward to seeing how we perform against some really good schools. The guys are especially excited to see what we can do against Eastern Kentucky."

Belmont will have a full squad competing in the Commodore Classic, including senior Matt Edwards who was inactive in the previous race.

In the previous year's Commodore Classic, Belmont finished 5th out of 15 schools, with Kaleb McLeod posting the best time for Belmont (25:09.0) and Matt Edwards trailing closely behind him with a time of 25:10.9.

Junior Kaleb McLeod, second place finisher at the Belmont Opener, had this to say on the competition that they will be facing:

"There are some nationally ranked teams that are going to be there… We're just really looking forward to getting after it out there. I really think that we can compete with any of them honestly, and I don't see why we can't win this weekend."

Some of those nationally ranked teams include MTSU, who is ranked #19 in the nation, Illinois, who is in the top 40 nationally, and OVC competitor, Eastern Kentcuky, who is also ranked in the top 40 nationally.

The Bruins have an extremely tough race ahead of them, but it will be exciting to see what they can do against this top level competition.
