NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University men's cross country open a high stakes month Saturday in the 2019 Ohio Valley Conference Championships, hosted by SIU Edwardsville.
The men raced 11 days ago at the UAB Blazer Classic 8K, placing second out of 26 teams. The Bruins saw strong showings from five runners who all finished inside the top 21. Kaleb McLeod (fifth) and Ben Naeger (eighth) both finished inside the top ten.
Program director Jeff Langdon liked what he saw during the UAB meet. "We are coming off our best performance of the season at UAB, so our confidence is high," Langdon said. "This is the time every year we aim to peak mentally and physically, and I really like how this group has come together."
Belmont, fifth in the latest USTFCCCA South Region poll - ahead of the likes of Florida, Georgia Tech, Tennessee and Georgia - will again go stride for stride with Eastern Kentucky in the conference meet. The Colonels, ranked fourth in the Southeast Region poll, received nine national poll votes Oct. 22.
"Eastern Kentucky has been a nationally-ranked program for years, and we respect their level of achievement year after year. That being said, we have a proud tradition of our own, and Saturday promises to be another exciting meet."
The men's race will start at 9 a.m. CT.
