NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A pair of 20-point performances last week earned No. 24 Belmont women's basketball's senior center Kylee Smith (Alpharetta, Ga.) multiple Player of the Week honors, including OVC and CollegeSportsMadness.com nods.
Smith helped extend the Bruins conference winning streak to 39-consecutive games with road wins over Tennessee State (87-70) and Tennessee Tech (68-60). She kicked off the week pouring in 20 points against the Tigers, draining a team-best four triples while collecting seven boards. The veteran then went on to register her third double-double of the season, combining for 26 points and 11 rebounds at TTU. She contributed 17 points with a 7-for-7 performance at the line in the third quarter alone to help the squad edge the Golden Eagles.
Collectively, Smith shot 50 percent from the field on 17 made field goals, leading the team's scoring efforts both nights. It's the third time this season that the Alpharetta, Ga. native has collected weekly accolades (Nov. 28, Dec. 26).
Belmont made its debut in the AP Top 25 earlier in the week, coming in at No. 24, after registering its 15th straight victory. It's the first time that any BU team has made an appearance in a national poll. The Bruins boast a 24-3 overall mark while moving to 14-0 in league action with four games remaining in regular season play.
