3-Point Competition at the Final Four

3-Point Competition at the Final Four

MINNEAPOLIS – Belmont point guard and record-breaking 3-point shooter Darby Maggard will participate in the State Farm College Slam Dunk and 3-Point Championships on Thursday as part of the NCAA Men's Basketball Final Four weekend celebration in Minneapolis, Minn. Maggard is one of eight seniors selected for the Women's 3-Point Championship.

The 31st annual State Farm College Slam Dunk and 3-Point Championships will air live on ESPN at 8 p.m. on Thursday. The action from the Minnesota Timberwolves' Target Center can also be streamed through watchespn.com and the Watch ESPN app.

The night features the Great Clips Slam Dunk Championship, the Men's and Women's 3-Point Shooting Championships and the Applebee's Team Shootout. The winners of the Men's and Women's 3-Point Championships will then compete in the Reese's Puffs Battle of the Champions to determine the overall 3-point champion.

"It's such a huge honor to be selected to participate in the College Slam Dunk and 3-Point Championships" Maggard said. "I'm really looking forward to it and I'm so thankful that I have this awesome opportunity to showcase my skills and this amazing Belmont women's basketball program on a national stage."

Maggard (Larwill, Ind.) is among the most dangerous and accurate 3-point shooters in NCAA history, ranking fourth all time with 430 made threes in her career. She is one of just seven players to ever surpass 400 made 3-pointers and the only one to do so while making better than 40 percent of her 3-point attempts (43.1 percent).

Along the way Maggard set both Ohio Valley Conference and Belmont school records for career 3-pointers made, but the 5-foot-5 guard proved herself so much more than a 3-point specialist. Maggard is the only player in NCAA Division I history to dish out at least 650 career assists while also making more than 400 3-pointers.

Maggard is the second Belmont player to participate in the State Farm College Slam Dunk and 3-Point Championships. Former Bruins men's basketball great Ian Clark, a current member of the NBA's New Orleans Pelicans, competed in the Men's 3-Point Championship in 2013. Clark reached the semifinals of the event and placed third.
