OWENS CROSS ROADS, Ala. – Paced by Abbie Gregory's top-10 finish, the Belmont women's golf team finished tied for fourth at the OVC Championship held this week on the Highlands Course at the RTJ Golf Trail at Hampton Cove in Owens Cross Roads, Alabama.

On another unseasonably warm and humid day in Northern Alabama, the Bruins posted their best round of the week, a 303, to move up a spot and finish in a tie with Austin Peay for fourth place at 920.  The fourth place showing ties the best finish by a Belmont team at an OVC Championship (2015) and they were two strokes off the school record for the lowest 54-hole score at a conference championship (918 in 2015).

"I am very pleased with our team's performance this week," said Lissa Bradford, Belmont head coach.  "We struggled on day one, but we came back, fought hard the last two days, and had a great finish."

Leading the way for Belmont was senior Abbie Gregory.  In her last tournament of her career, the Hendersonville, Tennessee native carded a final round 72 to finish the championship in a tie for sixth place at 220.  Her sixth place finish is the best by a Belmont golfer at the OVC Championship, while her 54-hole score is the second lowest in Belmont's history, just two strokes off Lorie Warren's school record of 218 set in 2009.

"I am really happy about how I played this week to close out my career," said Gregory.   "I just drove the ball in the fairway and had a great week on the greens.  Plus, when I got into trouble, I just made the smart decision to play conservative and not try the heroic shot."

Gregory becomes the first Belmont female golfer to earn top-20 finishes in every event she competed in a season.  In addition, she finishes ranked third in career top-10 finishes (13) and top-20 finishes (23) as well as fourth in single season scoring average (76.9) and career scoring average (78.9).

The other Bruin to post a top-20 finish was junior Mallory Sullivan.  The Smithville, Tennessee native shot a two-over 74 on Wednesday to place 16th at 228.  It was her fifth top-20 finish of the 2016-17 season.

"Overall, I didn't hit the ball well this week, but I made a lot of putts, especially today," said Sullivan.  "I am very happy with my finish and already looking forward to improving my showing at next year's championship."

Senior Megan Heath wrapped up her Belmont career with a tie for 22nd place and a three-round score of 234.  She finishes with a career scoring average of 79.4, which ranks her fifth all-time in Belmont history.

Wrapping up the scoring for BU: freshman Julia Nittoli finished in a tie for 30th at 243, while sophomore Emma Kate Liu placed 34th with a mark of 245.

Murray's State Moa Folke won the OVC Individual Championship with a score of 208.

This event concludes the 2016-17 season for the women's golf team.  In nine events, they earned six top-six finishes, including two match victories.
