SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's golf team opened up their fall season with a victory over Sewanee in a dual match held Sunday at The Course at Sewanee in Sewanee, Tennessee.
On a sunny and warm Sunday afternoon on top of Monteagle Mountain, the Bruins captured four of the seven matches contested to earn the victory.
The Tigers, ranked 24th nationally in the Golfweek/NCAA Division III Preseason Poll, captured the first two matches. Margaret Wentz defeated senior Julia Nittoli 4&3, while sophomore Caroline Cole beat Katelyn Dunstan 3&1.
Belmont captured four of the next five to clinch the victory. Sophomore Cameron Fish beat Corinne Parrish 7&6 in the third match. In the fifth match, junior Ann Catherine Blackburn edged Nicole Nesbitt 2&1. Senior Carlee Nanney won in the sixth over Ella Slade 8&7, while freshman Lily Gulley, in her first match as a Bruin, defeated Abbie Lowe 7&6.
The women's golf team is back on the course on September 16-17 at the Morehead State/Greenbrier Invitational in Lexington, Kentucky.
