MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The Belmont women's soccer team (1-1) dominated in shots again to see a reversal of fortune on the final day of the Golden Gopher Tournament, hosted by the University of Minnesota.  The Bruins traded goals with Toledo (0-2) on Sunday but came away with the narrow 3-2 victory.

BU turned up the offensive heat around the ninth minute of action with shots on goal coming from senior Amy Jo Anderson (Birmingham, Ala.), junior Rachel Schmidt (Dallas, Texas) and junior Kim Elmore (Salem, Va.) before senior Katie Proud (Knoxville, Tenn.) found the back of the net unassisted with just 12:29 on the clock.  The Rockets fired back and knotted the score eight minutes later.

Suddenly, the teams fell into a serious back-and-forth battle for control.  Belmont would emerge with a pair of goals scored in less than three minutes by junior Allie Hicks (Carmel, Ind.) and freshman Meg Howard (Brentwood, Tenn.) to put it ahead, 3-1.  However, 30 seconds later Toledo cut into the Bruins' lead by scoring its second goal of the day.

Belmont would take the 3-2 lead into the break and would fight mightily to maintain the one-goal advantage throughout the second stanza.  Toledo managed to narrowly outshoot BU in the half, 6-4, but could not find an equalizer.

Katie Proud led the Bruins with three shots, followed by Schmidt, Elmore, Hicks and freshman Rachael Ballish (Cincinnati, Ohio) who each recorded two shots.

Senior Nicole Berner (Randolph, N.J.) played the full 90 minutes in goal, racking up three saves on the day.

The Bruins held the advantage in shots for the second match in a row, 15-9.  The Rockets held the advantage in saves, 7-3, and corner kicks, 4-2.

Belmont returns to action on Friday, August 30 for a road contest at Miami (OH).  Match time is set for 4 p.m.
