Women's Soccer Concludes Exhibitions with Tie at UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Belmont women's soccer team (0-0) wrapped its span of exhibition contests with a 0-0 tie on the road at UAB (0-0) on Sunday.

The teams battled through three 30-minute periods in the preseason warmup.

"We like being able to take exhibition games to continue to learn and to get our team to mesh together," said Head Coach Heather Henson.  "We had some individuals to do well but I am proud of them as a whole team.  Tonight was a step and we improved from where we were on Friday.

"UAB is a very good team.  They are very dynamic in the attack and we need to play against that style to learn.  Playing a team like UAB was good for us.

"There are still things to work on but I'm proud of our effort tonight."

BU outshot UAB, 13-10.

Junior Cassie Blase (Waukesha, Wisc.) led the Bruins with four shots, followed by senior Allie Hicks (Carmel, Ind.) with three and soophomore Meg Howard (Brentwood, Tenn.) with two.

Junior Lindsey Epse (LaCanada, Calif.) recorded a trio of saves.

Belmont officially opens the 2014 season on the road at Valparaiso on Friday, August 22.  Match time is set for 7:30 p.m. CT.
