NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's soccer team returns to the road for its first contest of the weekend. The Bruins travel to Alabama to face off against Samford on Friday night.
The Bulldogs have won their last two contests and stand at 2-2 heading into Friday night's game.
SU is led in scoring by Heather Lacy, who has found the back of the net three times so far this season. Taylor Borman leads the team in assists with a total of three. Anna Maddox is the team's leading goalkeeper, logging over 363 minutes in goal with 20 saves and a 1.73 GAA.
Samford leads the all-time series, 3-1, including a 2-0 win over Belmont in Birmingham during the 2011 season, the last meeting between the programs.
Belmont takes its undefeated team to Alabama on Friday looking to record its third win of the 2014 campaign. The Bruins stand at 2-0-1 on the season, after finishing in a 1-1 double overtime tie at home against Indiana State last week.
BU continues to be led scoring by rookie phenom Belicia Mendiola (McKinney, Texas), who tallied three goals and six points on the opening weekend. Senior Taylor Smith (Atlanta, Ga.) and freshman Tara Austin (Beaumont, Texas) have notched the team's two assists so far this season. Junior Lindsey Espe (LaCañada, Calif.) has handled all of the action between the posts for the Bruins, recording 11 saves, and boasting a GAA of 0.58 with over 307 minutes logged.
