NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont women's soccer (4-3-4, 1-0-2 OVC) gears up for a pair of Ohio Valley Conference matchups against two of the league's hottest teams this weekend at Rose Park. The Bruins host SIUE (6-4-1, 3-0 OVC) on Friday evening and Southeast Missouri State 5-4, 2-1 OVC) on Sunday afternoon.
SIUE comes to Nashville looking to notch its fourth consecutive win and remain unbeaten in OVC play. The Cougars stand at 6-4-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
Michelle Auer leads SIUE in goals with a total of five while Emily Grahl leads the team in assists with four. In goal, Jennifer Pelley has logged over 1,030 minutes, posting a 1.39 GAA with 43 saves and two shutouts.
Belmont leads the all-time series with the Cougars, 1-0-1. Last year's matchup ended in a double overtime 1-1 stalemate in Edwardsville.
The Redhawks picked up wins in three of its last four outings before heading to Music City this weekend. SEMO stands at 5-4 overall and 2-1 in OVC play.
SEMO is led in scoring by Breana Beine, who has found the back of the net five times. Natasha Minor has tallied a team-leading five assists. Goalkeeper Kindra Lierz has logged 810 minutes between the posts, amassing a 0.89 GAA with 36 saves and four shutouts.
Southeast Missouri State holds the all-time series advantage, 5-0-1. The Redhawks won 2-1 in overtime one year ago on their home field.
Belmont returns to the friendly confines of Rose Park after a convincing 3-1 road win at Eastern Kentucky last weekend. BU stands at 4-3-4 overall and remain undefeated in league play with a 1-0-2 record.
The Bruins are led in scoring by newcomer Belicia Mendiola (McKinney, Texas), who has recorded five goals this season. Classmate Tara Austin (Beaumont, Texas) netted two of Belmont's three against EIU. Junior Lindsey Espe (LaCañada, Calif.) remains stellar between the posts, boasting a 0.81 GAA with over 662 minutes in goal. She also has 25 saves and two shutouts.
This week, Espe is ranked 65th in GAA (0.815) and 91st in save percentage (.806) among all NCAA Division I goalkeepers.
Friday's match with SIUE is set to kickoff at 5 p.m. while Sunday's contest with Southeast Missouri State is set to begin at 2 p.m. Sunday's game has been designated THINK PINK in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month. Belmont's very own Betty Wiseman, a recent breast cancer survivor, will serve as the honorary coach for the game. Both matches can be seen live on the OVC Digital Network.
